On 4 August 2019 Ballymaguigan will host the ‘Run for Fionntán’ in aid of Fionntán McPeake, a 15 year old member of our club.
Until recently Fionntán was an active member and played on our winning u14 championship team in 2017. However in the last few months he has suffered a sudden and massive deterioration in his eyesight, first noticed while playing for our u14s last September. After extensive testing Fionntán was diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, and has since been placed on the register for the blind.
Some of you may have come across Fionntán’s story in a recent article in the Irish News:
In an effort to raise money towards the cost of equipment and support aids the ‘Run for Fionntán’ was organised. The event includes a 10k road race, a 5k road race and a family or individual fun run, walk or crawl. All proceeds raised will go towards these costs and we hope this will aid Fionntán in leading as normal a life as possible under the circumstances.
We would be grateful if you could share the link below and the poster attached with your members who may be interested in taking part or supporting the event.
